Tag along with Randy!

I was recently privileged to tag along with my BFF Randy Cupps and his wife Michelle to shoot Rachele and Aaron's wedding. Basically, a tag along is where an extra photographer is invited to shoot, help out where needed, and basically just have fun. There is no compensation involved other than to learn from each other and further grow my skills behind the camera. Randy and Michelle have it covered as far as the images go, so anything that I shoot is pure gravy... FUN gravy! I just purchased a couple of new cameras and was itching for an opportunity to run them through their paces in a live (but uncommitted) shoot - perfect! As promised, a good time was had by all. I stayed three hours and left for home about the time they all headed for the reception. Check it out!

New Website!

OK, so I finally bit the bullet and put up a new website. Unlike my previous website, this one really features images - meaningful images relative and specific to all aspects of our work. There are tons of galleries with more to come. This new site offers the flexibility and expandability to grow for a long time. The shell is simple and does not detract from the intended purpose of showcasing what I do and perhaps some of the passion behind it. I put up a bio page for the first time ever. This is a risky maneuver for the likes of me, but I a risky kind of guy... :D
Check it out here and drop me a line to let me know what you think!

Shooting with Katlyn

Ok, so for the thousands who follow my blog, I know you've been anxiously awaiting a new post, so here it is! ;) In my last post, I mentioned Katlyn; a high school senior tasked with shadowing a professional photographer in order to learn and put together a portfolio for her senior project. Well, for the past few weeks, we have been busy making images! Here are a few "Katlyn in action shots", as well as some images she herself made. Check it out!

Emily & Luke

Last Thursday I met Emily and Luke downtown to shoot their engagement session and we had a blast. Usually I shoot these sessions on my own, but on this occasion, I was assisted by Katlyn Buser. Katlyn is a senior at ThunderRidge High School and has asked me to mentor her for her senior project which is a requirement for graduation. For her senior project, Katlyn chose to shadow a professional photographer and learn to be a better photographer herself. The project concludes with a presentation before a panel of judges at the high school, where Katlyn plans to present a portfolio of images showing her progress. Our first outing together was to photograph Emily and Luke's engagement session. Thanks to Katlyn's help with lighting, we were able to capture some super cool shots! Although Katlyn did not do any shooting this go around, I can tell she is eager to get started building her portfolio!

My first cover!

Check it out, my first cover image! I rarely submit images for magazine publications so when the call came for the Colorado Wedding Guide, I just happened to be working on a wedding with some cool shots I thought might work, so I sent them over. Next thing I know, I get the call that one of the images was selected for the cover of the Winter/Spring 2009 Issue.

The Colorado Wedding Guide is an awesome resource for all your wedding planning needs and can be picked up for free at most wedding retailers, i.e. jewelers, dress and tux shops, etc.

This image is from Melanie and David's wedding October 7th of 2007. The event was coordinated by Jessica Adler of JA Special Events and was held at the Phipps Tennis Pavilion. To view Melanie and David's wedding album - CLICK HERE.

Julie & Zygi - Steamboat Springs

Well, it's official; I'm are done shooting for the year. I had the disctinct pleasure of photographing Julie and Zygi's wedding in Steamboat Springs on Saturday December 20th. The wedding was held at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and the reception was at the Perry-Mansfield Pavilion.
I was joined by fellow photographer and friend Kevin Alexander of Quiet West Photography. Kevin is a very creative photographer and super nice guy. Although we have never worked together prior to this event, we had a great time and captured some awesome images!
The wedding was coordinated by Lindsey Grannis of One Fine Day Productions. Lindsey and her staff kept everything running smoothly all day long. Here are a few of my favorite images. For a slideshow of Julie and Zygi's wedding, click here.

Thanks for the love!

I never ask for testimonials. I figure if I've done a good job, I'll hear about it. Besides, the best testimonial is the one that was simply written from the heart to express thanks. Well, last week I sent out Dani & Doug's album from their wedding we shot at The Dove House last year - and today I received this email:

"We received the package last night. STEVE! It's so great! I was so surprised to see it so soon! And, Doug's parents happened to be with us this week so we got to share it with them. It's so much bigger (and unique) than we expected! You were so right- it's just really cool. The calendar was also a special surprise! How beautiful! So yes, we received everything and you, as usual, superceded our expectations. Anyway, wow. If we can write some kind of recommendation for you, let us know. We have been so continuously impressed with your work from start to finish. You have to know how highly we think of you... We'll chat soon... Thanks for the wonderful surprise!
-Dani"

Suzanne & Blue - Wedding!

Hey, remember these guys from their engagement photos a few months back? Well now they're married and I had the good fortune to be a part of it all. For the third time in as many weddings, I was joined by my bestest friend and awesome shooter Randy Cupps. Randy is quite simply a great photographer and wonderful asset to my success!
Suzanne and Blue were married at the Lakewood Country Club; what a beautiful venue for a wedding!
The wedding was planned and coordinated by Jessica Adler of JA Special Events. Jessica is a treat to work with and did an awesome job of making sure everything ran smoothly.
The flower arrangements and bouquets were provided by Sweet-Pea Flowers. Wow, there is nothing quite like fresh floral arrangements to bring out the beauty of a wedding!

Blue is a Navy Special Ops guy - they make movies about guys like him... Anyway, check out the groomsmen gifts! Arrrrggg!

Here's one of Randy's shots of the bridesmaids getting ready for the ceremony. Very cool indeed!

You can talk all you want about "capturing the moment" or "photo journalism", and as much of that style as we shoot these days, there is nothing quite like the classic beauty of a well made bridal portrait.

Hmmm, wonder where the idea for the shoes came from??
