More photos with Emily

I'm mentoring Emily for her senior project on photography. Each week (weather permitting) we go somewhere fun to take photos. On this trip, we were joined by Emily's friends Courtney and Jordan. We had a great time and captured some fun images. Although Emily does most of the shooting, here are a few I took along the way.

Albums - the real thing!

I have been completing a bunch of albums over the Winter and it occurred to me that rather than just post the design, I should show a few shots of the actual albums as they are displayed on my coffee table. These albums are very nice quality and are the very same albums I offer in my basic package. Unlike some photographers who may offer an inexpensive press printed book as their "starter" album, we start at the top and stay there. Here are a few shots of my latest samples. These books both measure 10x13"; one is oriented horizontal and the other is vertical. Imagine seeing your photos spread across a 20x13 or 10x26" spread for the first time - it's quite a site! Although we offer many stylish cover options, these two books both feature the "Crystal Glance" cover, where the cover photo is printed right into an acrylic cover. Very beautiful indeed! Click the images for larger versions. If you're planning a wedding, I recommend one of these beautiful keepsake albums. These photos may give you a glimps of the quality, but nothing beats an up close and personal viewing. Please contact me to set up a consultation.

Little Wes

Today I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing little Wesley; son of Angela and James whose wedding I photographed a couple of years ago. Wesley is just over 2 weeks old and a real sweetheart. Angela and James have commissioned me to document Wesley's first year over the course of 4 portrait sessions. What fun! Click the images for to view them big.

Emily's Senior Project

Last year I mentored Katlyn Buser with her senior project of wanting to learn what it might be like to become a professional phtographer. We had a ton of fun and made some cool photos. Of course she wowed the review panel and passed with flying colors.

This year I'm mentoring Katlyn's best friend Emily. Emily wants to get into modeling and was the subject of much of Katlyn's portfolio last year. So Emily asked me to be her mentor this year, also to learn photography, but her thesis is directed towards modeling from the photographer's perspective. We just had our first outing this past Saturday and it didn't take long before Emily discovered that just because you're not in front of the camera that you have have it easy! The photographer must control all aspects of the resulting image with a specific purpose in mind. It is our job to photograph our subject in their environment and through the use of light, composition, color and posing, create a compelling image that will speak to the eve
n the casual observer.

In this shot, meet Katlyn's little sister, Caylee, who was kind enough to come along as our model. Keeping in mind this is Emily's first time behind the camera and Caylee's first time in front of the camera, we only tried to cover some basics. An important lesson we learned is that sometimes a model is naturually photogenic and may require very little direction from the photographer. Here is a shot I made of Caylee as she relaxed "between takes". :-)

They said thanks! :-)

People tell me thanks all the time and believe me, a simple "thank you" can go a long way. It never hurts to receive any comment that helps keep us on track. Just the other day, Julie and Zygi picked up their wedding album (click here to view their album design) and were genuinely excited to finally see their photos large, printed and bound in a quality family heirloom. What a perfect way to finish their wedding experience. Upon leaving, Julie handed me a "thank you" in the form of a hand-written card. What a nice touch from an even nicer couple. This may be the end of one chapter in our relationship, but the beginning of another, as Julie and Zygi now have a friend and photographer for life.

Erin & Kyle Album

Erin and Kyle were married at the Aspen Lodge in Estes Park. The Colorado high country is the perfect setting to be married in the Autumn. Check out their album design here.

Amanda & Jon Album

Amanda and Jon were married at the Red Rocks chapel on September 6th. Red Rocks is a beautiful place anytime, but add a beautiful wedding party and it becomes magic! Check out Amanda and Jon's album design here!

'09 Year in Review

2009 was a challenging but rewarding year and I have much to be thankful for. I had the pleasure of photographing alongside some of Colorado's finest photographers, both in a lead and 2nd shooter role. My clients have all been wonderful to work with and all seem genuinely happy with the service I provide. As I go back through some of my favorite images from 2009, I am content in the knowledge that the past 12 months have helped me to grow as both a photographer and person. Amanda & Brian Album

Hey look, an album design! Amanda and Brian were married at the Greek Orthodox Church in Denver, CO. Wow, what a beautiful place! I was joined for the day by photographers James Gritz and Autumn Burke. Between the three of us, we were able to be in literally three places at once, which we really needed at this wedding. Check out the slideshow here.

Dianna & Jeremiah Album

Another album to share! Dianna and Jeremiah were married at the Broadmoor Resort and Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO. Such a beautiful place! Although it rained for most of the day, we made the most of it and managed to get out side when it mattered the most. I was joined on the day by fellow photographer Hardy Klahold. The event was coordinated by Taylor Fry of Eat Dring & Be Married. Check out the slideshow here.

Tiffany & Travis Album

I've been designing albums like crazy and feel the need to share! Tiffany and Travis were married in City Park in downtown Ft. Collins, CO. The reception was held at Seton Hall. I was joined for the day by fellow photographer John Hudetz. To view Tiffany and Travis' album design, click here. Use the "back" button in your browser to return to this page.

Meg & Andy

Recently I had the rare pleasure of shooting 2nd for another photographer - Grant Oaks. Grant and I traded off this year; he shot with me on Liza and Alan's wedding (see album post below) and I shot for him for Meg and Andy. I must say, not only is it a lot of fun shooting for someone else; it is challenging, rewarding, and a unique learning experience. I'm all about perspective and relevance in whatever I do. From the images I make to the approach I take, it is important that the resulting imagery is meaningful to me, my clients, and even the casual observer. Here are some of my favorite images from Meg and Andy's wedding. Keep in mind, I hardly spoke to them all day and provided very minimal direction to achieve any of these images. Yes, Grant provided lots of direction, but I tried to stay out of the way and make images that compliment the body of work. Be sure to click the images for a full screen view.
